Learning Disabilities
Students with Learning Disabilities
Students with learning disabilities can flourish with the support of Greenwich Education and Prep's teachers and consultants. Working from the recommendations of psycho-educational evaluations and the results of standardized tests, we create personalized programs for each student. From subject-specific tutoring to comprehensive LD programs, we empower our students by teaching them the tools they need to excel.
For younger students, we design educational plans to target their unique needs, incorporating alternative teaching methods and providing ample reinforcement. For older students, we also help them understand their strengths and weaknesses so that they can maximize their academic potential. Above all, our specialized teachers and consultants work with our students to encourage self-advocacy and enable academic confidence.
At Greenwich Education and Prep, we have created diverse programs to specifically address our students' needs across many subject areas, including math, science, social studies, language arts, foreign languages, and study skills. We guide our students though various strategies which they can apply in the classroom, such as teaching students with dysgraphia how to keep their notes on a computer, helping students with memory issues to use study and organizational aids, or showing students with ADHD how to divide big assignments into smaller, more manageable tasks. We often work with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and collaborate with schools to ensure the best possible academic experience for our students.
A Multi-Sensory Approach to Teaching Reading and Writing
One of the areas in which Greenwich Education and Prep can help LD students is in reading and writing. We provide the essential components of effective reading instruction which are stipulated by the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD) and supported by the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act. Our teachers are trained in a variety of programs, including Orton-Gillingham, and can incorporate different approaches to help our students learn the key elements of literacy:
- Phonemic Awareness
- Phonics
- Vocabulary Development
- Fluency
- Reading Comprehension
- Writing and Spelling
All of the research-based teaching methods we use emphasize individualized support to enable every student to succeed. To learn more, contact us to schedule an appointment with one of our reading specialists.
